What “near-net” means
The term does not mean that a dry textile is a finished component. It means that profile, curvature, thickness or section transition is introduced during preform formation. Resin processing, curing or densification, trimming, inspection and final qualification still follow according to the material system.
Representative geometries include T and L profiles, rings, cylinders, cones, domes, disks, blocks and pipe-to-flange transitions.
Potential manufacturing value
Near-net formation may reduce cutting waste, complicated drape operations and the number of separately prepared reinforcement pieces. It can also make the intended yarn path and section transition more repeatable. These are process objectives; actual time, cost and quality benefits must be measured for the selected route.

Aerospace qualification remains downstream
Aerospace use requires controlled material pedigree, process specification, defect acceptance, inspection methods, design allowables and component-level evidence. A physical woven cone or ring is valuable manufacturing evidence but not a flight-qualified article.
